Route 3 Kanoneiland

Leaving Upington on the N10 towards Groblershoop over the main bridge take the first road on your right called the Jooste-eiland road. This beautiful winding road takes you past agricultural land with horses, lamas, zebra’s and springbok on both sides of the road.

When you reach a T-junction, turn right on the R359 and follow the road for approximately 10 km before you get Oranjerus on your right where you can stop for breakfast/lunch or supper on the Orange River banks. If you need to cool down there is a beautiful pool to do so.
Please take note that Oranjerus restaurant (0797060490) is closed on Monday’s and Sunday evenings.

If you are doing the route from the other side you can overnight at Oranjerus in chalets or at their campsite.

Leaving Oranjerus you take a right back on the R359 towards Kanoneiland. Turn right 1km from Oranjerus, cross 2 low level bridges before you turn left towards Kanoneiland town. On entering Kanoneiland turn left and drive for 1km before you turn right onto a short piece of gravel road (500m) before you reach African Vineyard Wellness spa.

Leaving African Vineyard you drive back to the Kanoneiland turn off and turn left towards the N14. Once you have reached the N14 turn right again towards Upington. Drive 2 km before you reach Bezalel on your right, for wine and Brandy tasting. Bezalel also offers you the option to overnight in their garden chalets.

After your visit at Bezalel turn right on the N14 for a 22km drive back to Upington.

Take a sunset river cruise on Sakkie se Arkie bookings need to be done in advance with Sakkie on 0825645447. Paddle the Orange by renting kayaks also at Sakkie.
